Hanna Winter – Nonna
Nonna is a character based on the empathic connections Hanna Winter experienced with people fleeing vulnerable backgrounds. Inspired by the resilience she witnessed in an elderly woman living through a challenging time, she was drawn to the hope and grounded presence that the elderly can offer as part of the fabric of our societies and the humanity they weave into everyday life.
Combining clown practice and playful character-based interaction, Nonna shares an experience of joyful hope.
Hanna Winter
A Hungarian-born clown, actor, and director, Hanna Winter has worked internationally in Hungary, Australia, and the UK, and has toured with Clowns Without Borders in numerous countries. Since 2018, she has hosted the monthly cult comedy cabaret night The Lost Cabaret.
Hanna has directed modern dance and physical theatre shows, and has a particular passion for working with clown artists to hone their skills. Having recently completed pedagogic training in Padua with Giovanni Fusetti, Hanna is now focused on teaching physical theatre, clown, and mask.
Born from her curiosity while working as a clown with communities with a high rate of trauma, she has also trained as a facilitator of embodied therapy and has researched the history and current understanding of trauma-related conditions.
Every year, Certain Blacks supports the development of two new pieces for Ensemble Festival. We’re proud to present Nonna as one of this year’s commissions.
