Ensemble Festival 24 July 2021
Abstract Benna is a South London-born Spoken Word performer of Bajan & Jamaican heritage. He started writing at the age of 8, inspired by his love for rap music and films. The ways in which words are put together to paint pictures and convey meaning resonated with him immediately which inevitably lead to him writing his own stories in the form of Rap lyrics. From the age of 5 his perspectives were shaped out of everything which gave Brixton its stand-out reputation: crime, culture, history, community.
Abstract Benna was lucky to find a pen as his tool and words as his outlet at a time when friends and family were gravitating towards the streets; he has always and continues to share stories, life lessons, memories and emotions in his poetry from the place that shaped him into the person his is today. That place being: Brixton, South London.
